Every Quarter we meet as a team to review the previous 3 months and plan the next. At the last meeting, we were struck by the amount of professional development we had committed to, so we added it all up. In 2014 and so far this year, we have cumulatively spent 1000 hours on improving our skills and education. Considering an 8 hour day, that is 125 days!
As Certified Financial Planners, and to maintain our various insurance and investment licenses, each Financial Planner is required to attend 30 hours of continuing education per year. These sessions are focused on changes in legislation and the resulting planning strategies. There were 5 courses completed, which took between 100 and 120 hours each. Additionally, we are currently enrolled in 3 courses, but have not yet written exams.
Ours is a dynamic industry; annual budget changes, ever changing capital markets and regulations make it imperative to spend time on professional development. We are proud of the team and the extra commitment they have shown to develop themselves personally and professionally. It is our hope that you experience this development in the form of increased competency, knowledge and confidence.
Enclosed are our regular biographies amended to show the professional development of each team member.
John completed the last two courses required to attain the Chartered Investment Manager designation (CIM). At a future date, the CIM may be used to be more involved in the Portfolio Management of client accounts. John was granted his TEP designation by the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. This will help greatly as we begin a campaign of ensuring our senior clients have comprehensive estate plans.
Stephen MacDonald, B.Comm, CFP
Stephen completed his Canadian Securities Course (CSC) as a precursor to his current enrolment in Level 1 Certified Financial Analyst (CFA) course. The CFA designation would allow Stephen Portfolio Manager registration.

Kelley also joined the Legal Education Society of Alberta and is enrolled in the Certified Divorce Financial Analyst (CDFA) designation, which gives her specific knowledge to assist with financial planning during marital breakdown.
